Balance

Something that is very rarely spoken about is domestic abuse in relation to men. We are so used to hearing how the men have been the perpetrators. But what if it's the other way around? This post is to address the balance. There are women out there that can be abusive and extremely dangerous to their husband and their kids.

When men are victims of domestic abuse, they can experience a range of emotions and reactions, including:

1. Fear and vulnerability: Men may feel afraid of their abusive partner or of the consequences of leaving the relationship. They might also feel vulnerable due to the power dynamics at play.

2. Shame and guilt: Society often perpetuates the misconception that men should always be strong and able to protect themselves. As a result, male victims of abuse may feel ashamed or guilty for not being able to prevent or escape the abuse.

3. Confusion and self-doubt: Men in abusive relationships may question themselves and their judgment. They might wonder how they ended up in an abusive situation or internalize blame for the abuse.

4. Anger and frustration: Men can feel angry about the abuse they have suffered and frustrated with their inability to change the situation. They might also feel angry at societal stereotypes that downplay or ignore their experiences.

5. Isolation and loneliness: Male victims of domestic abuse may feel isolated and alone due to societal stigma and the difficulty in finding support networks. They might fear that others won't believe or take their experiences seriously.

It's important to acknowledge that every individual's experience is different and that these emotions can vary in intensity. Seeking support from trusted friends, family, or professionals can help navigate these complex emotions and provide the necessary validation and guidance. Your GP may be of great help to you and provide different options.
