What if our main problem is ignorance? There is a bible verse that says my people perish because of a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) This was definitely my experience. I hadn't heard of emotional psychological abuse only physical. I was literally suffering in silence.
What are the different forms of domestic abuse? This post may be triggering. If you are reading this, and you feel that you have experienced this are experiencing this please seek help. I have found my GP very helpful, as well as counsellors.
The 6 Types:
1. Physical Abuse: This involves the use of physical force, such as hitting, kicking, strangling, or any other form of physical harm.
2. Emotional\/Verbal Abuse: This type of abuse includes belittling, humiliation, constant criticism, name-calling, threats, or any action that undermines the victim's self-esteem and emotional well-being.
3. Sexual Abuse: This involves any non-consensual sexual activity or coercion, such as rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, or undermining the victim's sexual boundaries.
4. Financial Abuse: This form of abuse involves restricting or controlling the victim's access to financial resources, withholding money, controlling their finances, or sabotaging their ability to work or gain financial independence.
5. Psychological Abuse: This includes manipulation, gaslighting, and controlling behavior that aims to manipulate the victim's perception of reality, making them doubt their own judgment and sense of self.
6. Digital Abuse: With the rise of technology, this form of abuse has also become prevalent. It includes monitoring or controlling the victim's online activity, harassment, threats, or stalking through digital means.
It is important to remember that domestic abuse can take place in various combinations of these forms, and each situation may be unique. If you or someone you know is experiencing any form of abuse, it's essential to seek help and support from local helplines, shelters, or organisations specialisingin domestic violence.
