Don’t neglect our own needs
It's about 2:50 AM as I write this. I'm hoping that my vulnerability is of help to someone. Have you ever felt so behind in life that you are constantly having to play catch up? Due to no fault of your own, when you were growing up you didn't have things in place to set you up for life. So you're finding out that you're having to learn things much later in life that other people received growing up.
As I sit here and write this I've been praying to God to catch me up supernaturally and continue to bring the right people around me to help. If you are feeling this way, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.
I want to thank you for doing the work you need to do, to be better. That takes a lot of courage and a lot of strength. Thank you for not saying ‘well that's just the way I am’. Thank you for not giving up on yourself, and giving up on life. It's because you strive to be a better version of yourself that society in the long run is richer for you being in it.
Not many people will understand your journey, the fight to be where you are today. I wanted to let you know I have a pretty good understanding of your journey even though it won't be the same.
It would be very easy for me at this point to say don't give up, be courageous and keep fighting and moving forward. All good advice in some sense. But I wanted to ask you what you need. I wanted to encourage you not to ignore what your heart is trying to tell you. Please don't ignore what your body is trying to tell you. Maybe for some of you, you just need rest or simply to be held or be around people who truly love and care for you. Do your best not to neglect our own needs.
I may not be there physically with you, but maybe you just need to do what I have been doing this morning. Asking God for help in the most painful of places. Please accept my virtual hug in solidarity with your journey. It really isn't easy to come from difficult beginnings, undo generational damage and then try and be the best version of yourself.
It truly is a lot of work. Thank you for not giving up.
