Empathy is not a dirty word, it is a gift.
Following on from my previous post, I just wanted to explain why I shared it. I carry a strong sense of justice within me and I hate to see people in pain (physical or emotional), and I can't stand rejection, abuse, and neglect toward people. Let's just say injustice brings out my Hulk*-like qualities.
It was my hope that by me being vulnerable it would help others to also be vulnerable, and by acknowledging their pain to start the journey to get the help that they need.
Thank you to all those who reached out to me sending encouraging messages. But I didn't write the post to receive attention. I wrote the post in the hopes of helping people who were suffering in silence.
So, I implore you again, you may not understand depression or suicidal ideations, but please share my blog posts. You could be saving a life. I also want to try and reawaken something that might be lying dormant or anaesthetised within you.
Don't protect yourself from feeling other people's pain. Empathy is a gift. It allows you to connect with somebody in a deep way which makes the other person feel that they are not alone, that they are cared for and loved.
If you shutdown your ability to empathise and feel, this Vulcan* like behavior can seriously affect how you connect with others. This selfish act slowly erodes unity, trust, vulnerability, community, and family. Then before you know it everyone is just looking out for no.1.
In this time especially now, we really do need each other. Little random acts of kindness really speaks volumes. Why not start a new pandemic of love and caring for people? When was the last time you cried with someone because of the pain that they are going through? When was the last time you sacrificed for someone else just because they needed it more than you did?
If every person in society started to do this, what would our communities look like? The question is who goes first? Well, I'm not going to wait for you. I'm already going first by sharing my story, writing my songs, and being there for people as I'm able to.
What you choose to do is your business. People are very rarely remembered for the empires that they built or all the money that they made. The most influential people are known for the difference they made in other people's lives. People are remembered most for how they LOVED others! The choice is yours I've already made mine.
I choose love.
More from me soon xxxx
