Spiritual Abuse
Not the easiest topic of conversations. But a necessary one. As you know I’m a Christian and I live and follow Christian principles and teachings.
There are those that use religion to abuse, control, and harm individuals. This is how cults can be formed by taking sound doctrine and twisting it for personal gain.
Whilst this is a risk, it is worth remembering not to throw the baby with the bathwater. Christianity has saved my life on many occasions.
Here is a humble definition of spiritual abuse to use as a guide to decipher if someone could be at risk. As always I suggest, if you, or someone else maybe at risk , please seek help from someone outside that group that can look at the situation objectively and give you sound advice. For example, a counsellor or GP.
Spiritual abuse refers to the misuse or manipulation of religious or spiritual beliefs and practices to control, harm, or exploit individuals. It occurs when someone in a position of power or authority within a religious or spiritual community uses their influence to coerce, intimidate, or manipulate others for personal gain or to exert control over them. This can include behaviour such as restricting freedom of thought, promoting an atmosphere of fear or guilt, enforcing rigid beliefs, isolating individuals from friends and family, and using religion as a tool for manipulation or abuse. Spiritual abuse can have significant psychological, emotional, and even physical consequences for those who experience it.
Please consider joining me to fight this problem and eradicate abuse from relationships once and for all. No one should ever have to suffer abuse in a relationship. There are no exceptions or excuses.
